How can you make a difference?

The State of Palestine is one of UNICEF's most complex operating environments, encompassing humanitarian response, recovery, resilience, and development programming across Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

As Child Protection Officer (MHPSS and CPHA), you will be based in the State of Palestine Country Office and report to the Child Protection Manager. You will supervise programme personnel supporting CPHA in the West Bank and child protection programming in East Jerusalem.

You will contribute substantively to Child Protection programme interventions and results related to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for children and caregivers affected by all forms of violence, in line with Output 4.1 of UNICEF’s Area Programme Document (APD) and UNICEF’s Core Commitment to Children in Humanitarian Action for Child Protection (2.3.5), while supporting overall Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (CPHA) priorities of the section. You will ensure technical alignment of national MHPSS programming, and manage the Child Protection section’s programme in East Jerusalem to prevent and mitigate impact of violence against children. You will provide technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes for both humanitarian response and early recovery.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of two years of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required.
  • Skills: To be considered for this role, candidates are required to have expertise in child protection, programme management, psychosocial support, capacity building, partnership development, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables:

  • Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
  • An advanced university degree is an asset.
  • Relevant experience in programme development in child protection related areas in a UN system agency or organization, in particular related to Child Protection In Humanitarian Action (CPHA), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), or preventing and mitigating violence against children in all settings, is considered as an asset.
  • Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Failure to comply with such requirements, where applicable and without a duly approved medical exemption from the relevant UN authority, will result in the cancellation of the selection or may lead to other administrative measures, including separation from service.
