The Country Programme of UNICEF Bulgaria for 2023 – 2027 aims to ensure that every child has the best start in life, feels safer and receives better support to develop their full potential. The Communication Associate (Digital Мedia) contributes to the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of an advocacy and communication strategy, to promote respect for children’s and women’s rights and support UNICEF's mission in Bulgaria.

How can you make a difference? 

Under the general supervision of the Communication Officer NOB assists in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of an advocacy and communication strategy, to promote respect for children’s and women’s rights and support UNICEF's mission in Bulgaria.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support to advocacy and communication strategy development
  • Support to digital and social media channels development and management
  • Support in monitoring and evaluation of digital and social media results
  • Support in Fundraising

Support to advocacy and communication strategy development

  • Contribute to the development of the advocacy and communication strategy by coordinating appropriate audience research and compiling and analysing relevant data. Collect information from stakeholders and other partners, prepares background communication and promotional materials for briefing and visits of media, and other stakeholders and assist in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements.
  • Based on the existing brand tool guideline, follow up on the production of advocacy and communication materials (e.g., films, videos, audio-visuals, etc.), and oversee the qualitative aspects of production, (e.g., quality control, translations, reviews of layout and graphic design. Contribute to the preparation of status and progress reports by providing information and drafting selected sections of it. 
  • Collect, register and maintain information on project activities by reviewing reports and through first-hand sources. Establish/maintain an up-to-date documentation centre for publications, press releases and clippings, as well as photographic and audio-visual materials.
  • May be required to carry out specific administrative operational/control tasks for project/programme activities which may include field visits to project sites,and perform as an alternate for the Communication Associate.

Support to digital and social media channels development and management

  • Develop and manage social media accounts of UNICEF Bulgaria on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Tik Tok, Linkedn and any other emerging platform, in line with the purpose of the position. Create visual content for social media platforms – posters, factographs, photo-stories, reels, videos. Develop networks with social media influencers to position children’s issues and UNICEF at the centre of social media discourse in the country.
  • Support the coordination of digital promotions and paid advertising campaigns, monitor and optimize the performance of campaigns set by external agencies and partners.
  • In line with the evolving world of social media, keep abreast with new developments. Advise where relevant, about the need to engage with emerging social media platforms.
  • Maintain and update list of social media influencers, bloggers and advocates who can be engaged to amplify UNICEF’s messages. Assist in developing and maintaining close relationships with these influencers.
  • Maintain a library of pictures, infographics, videos etc. in an easy-to-find and use manner.
  • Ensure digital content is uploaded to the global platforms through webshare and other sharing mechanisms.
  • Prepare social media packs and materials for briefings and visits of high-level dignitaries, donors and other special interest groups. The task includes preparing social media kits with messages and assisting in the planning and implementing arrangements.
  • Manage UNICEF Bulgaria’s web platform through web-based content management system (drupal) on a daily basis; Plan and gather editorial content for the website to support country office communication strategy, regional and global campaigns and priorities.

Support in monitoring and evaluation of digital and social media results

  • Timely monitoring and evaluation of activities of social media platforms, website traffic and trends are undertaken according to the expected goals to ensure quality, effectiveness and relevance of UNICEF Bulgaria’s digital communication efforts.
  • Generate and analyse reports on web traffic using Google Analytics and other social media-focused analytics channels.
  • Collect data and information on key indicators that are relevant to the digital communication of UNICEF Bulgaria.
  • Monitor and evaluate the reach and engagement of UNICEF’s social media posts and website visitors. Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Recommend appropriate and timely action for course correction or reporting. Maintain a library of coverage (clippings, coverage etc.).

Support in Fundraising

  • Support the Fundraising Section to develop videos and articles for Fundraising campaigns
  • Draft engaging and compelling content for UNICEF’s donation webpage in close cooperation with the Fundraising Section. Regularly update the content of the donation website in line with planned fundraising and communication campaigns and activities.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education: Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, and related fields.

For this position, a bachelor’s degree from a recognized academic institution in a relevant field may replace three years of related work experience. A master’s degree may replace additional two years.

Work Experience: Six years of practical professional work experience in communication, managing web platforms, social media.

Language Requirements: Fluency in Bulgarian and English.

Desirables:

  • Experience in content generation for social media and websites
  • Background/familiarity with content management system for website
  • Knowledge of  Drupal
