 How can you make a difference? 

As an Advocacy Officer, and under the guidance of the Communication Specialist, you will support the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effective, integrated advocacy and communication strategies across UNICEF Brazil. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across UNICEF, as well as with external partners and will support effective advocacy and communication at national and sub-national level. 

 Your key deliverables include: 

  1. You will assist in creating effective advocacy and communication strategies that achieve specific, measurable outcomes, working closely with an Advocacy and Media Specialist. Provide technical support across all advocacy stages by executing and administering a variety of technical advocacy transactions, preparing documentation, and following organizational processes to strengthen strategic efforts.  

  1. In monitoring and delivering Advocacy and Communication results, you will implement advocacy strategies by supporting tactics such as tracking advocacy assets, drafting briefs, press releases, and articles, and organizing media events. Collaborate with team members and partners to gather and analyze strategy-related information, and actively participate in evaluations, reviews, and reporting to support follow-up actions.  

  1. You will provide timely support in building media relations by managing contacts and relationships with journalists across print, TV, radio, and digital channels to amplify UNICEF’s advocacy priorities. You will conduct surveys, share insights, and report on critical issues, ensuring challenges are addressed swiftly for impactful results.  

  1. You will support the delivery of key projects and workstreams by developing and tracking project plans, identifying barriers, and supporting efficient budget management, including projections and monitoring to ensure smooth operations.  

  1. In advocacy capacity building, you will document and share best practices in advocacy to enhance the internal capacity of UNICEF, contributing to a stronger advocacy impact organization-wide.  

  1. It will be required focus on stakeholder engagement, where you will research and maintain a database of current and potential advocacy partners, supporting effective information flow and relationship management to foster key alliances essential for advocacy success.  

  1. As additional responsibilities you may take on other tasks as needed to support the overall goals of the Communication and Advocacy Section.   

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…  

  • Education - University degree (Bachelor's degree) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.   

  • Experience – One year of practical professional work experience in advocacy, communication, print and broadcast media, or digital media is required.  

Desirable

  • Demonstrated strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.  
  • Proven experience in developing and monitoring advocacy strategies for social causes.
  • Knowledge and experience with issues related to children's and adolescents' rights.
  • Previous experience in the UN is an asset. 
 
  •  Language - Fluency in Portuguese and English. Knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
