    Consultant, Senior Technical Expert on Children's Environmental Health, CEED PG, NYHQ remote, Req #584319 in United States

    The purpose of the consultancy is to develop high-quality technical content on children’s environmental health and support capacity development and CEH global leadership. UNICEF requires a senior expert in Children's Environmental Health to support high-level content development, strengthen technical collaboration, and expand capacity development initiatives for a global audience. This is a 12 month consultancy and the consultant will be responsible for spearheading the development and quality assurance of a suite of technical knowledge products. This includes the conceptualization of an advanced lecture series on Children's Environmental Health (CEH) for medical professionals, creating comprehensive global guidance for healthy environments where children live, learn, and play, and authoring and/or quality assuring a series of evidence-based policy briefs on high-priority topics. A key function of this role will be to serve as a primary technical reviewer for UNICEF's CEH publications, providing rigorous quality assurance for technical reports, country-level analyses, and other global guidance documents to ensure they are evidence-based and of the highest standard. Furthermore, the consultant will play a critical role in expanding UNICEF's technical collaboration and capacity development efforts. This involves support to the identification of key technical partners, including academic institutions, WHO CEH collaborating centers, and professional networks to enhance evidence generation and knowledge sharing. The role will also focus on strengthening the capacity of stakeholders by mapping existing development programs in LMICs, serving as a key resource person for a global webinar series, engaging leading experts to create impactful videos for policymakers, and providing on-demand technical review and strategic advice for country-level documents and programme strategies to ensure alignment with global best practices.

    Gender equality is essential to realizing the mandate of UNICEF to uphold the rights of all children. UNICEF’s Gender Action Plan (GAP) 2022-25 elaborates the steps required to accelerate progress on gender equality across the five Goal Areas of the Strategic Plan - health and nutrition, education, child protection, protection and water and sanitation, and social protection - as well as within institutional systems and processes, with clear indicators and monitoring mechanisms to track change. As mandated by the Executive Board of UNICEF, a report is prepared every year on the status of implementation of the GAP, to be presented at the annual session of the Board. The global annual report is based on Country Office annual reporting on GAP priorities across goal areas through the Results and Assessment Module, as well as using data from other corporate platforms like Vision and the Emergency Preparedness Platform. In addition to the annual report to the Board, UNICEF prepares reports for the UN System-Wide Action Plan on Gender Equality, the UN Gender Equality Action Plan, and for donors to the gender equality portfolio. To support these reporting requirements, the Gender Equality Section of the Programme Group seeks a consultant to support the following tasks: 1) Support data quality assurance and aggregation for annual reporting 2) Facilitate the production of various gender reports to document gender results, challenges and lessons.

    National Consultancy: Postnatal Care Gap Analysis and Guideline Revision, TANZANIA. in United Republic of Tanzania

    Despite national guidelines and global commitments, the low coverage and inconsistent quality of PNC services indicate a disconnect between policy and practice. A systematic gap analysis is required to understand where, why, and how PNC services are falling short. This will inform strategic investments, innovations, and improvements that are rooted in evidence and tailored to the Tanzanian context.  The findings from this analysis will support the Ministry of Health, development partners, and implementing actors in designing context-appropriate solutions to ensure that every mother and newborn receives high-quality, timely, and respectful care during the postnatal period.
