How can you make a difference? 

A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen within UNICEF Mozambique for a passionate and committed WASH Specialist (Emergency), P3 Temporary Appointment (364 days) based in Maputo, Mozambique.

The WASH Specialist (Emergency) reports to the Chief WASH (P5) for general guidance and direction. The specialist supports the Chief in managing the WASH in Emergency output program in the country, especially for response to natural disasters and public health emergencies, as well as Disaster Risk Reduction which include preparedness and resilience building. The specialist provides support for the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH in Emergency programme within the country programme to ensure the achievement of the WASH in Emergency related output results in the country programme.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Management support to the Chief WASH/CEED, with focus on WASH in Emergency output.
  2. Programme development and planning, with focus on WASH in Emergency output.
  3. Programme management, monitoring, and delivery of results, with focus on WASH in Emergency output.
  4. Advisory services and technical support, with focus on WASH in Emergency output.
  5. Advocacy, networking, and partnership building, with focus on WASH in Emergency output.
  6. Humanitarian WASH preparedness and response.
  7. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building, with focus on WASH in Emergency output.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education

  • An advanced university degree (Masters or higher) in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, engineering, or another relevant technical field.  
  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are required.

 

Work Experience: 

  • DEVELOPMENTAL: a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.
  • One year of deployment in a developing country is required.
  • HUMANITARIAN: At least one three-month deployment mission in a humanitarian situation (with UN-Govt-INGO) is required.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables:

  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
  • Experience and knowledge of the WASH Cluster system is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Portuguese, Spanish, Italian or other Latin Language is considered as an asset.

Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
