UNICEF Sao Tome and Principe is supporting the country’s child protection system to strengthen capacity for improved response and prevention of violence against children (VAC). As part of ongoing efforts, a qualitative and quantitative research is being undertaken at national level, in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics, and various social sector ministries such as education, health and social protection, and the technical support of an international research institution, on the well-being of children and adolescents in STP, with particular focus on knowledge, attitudes and practices related to VAC, in school, family and community settings. The research aims to advocate and inform a context-appropriate policy, legal and programmatic framework (including reporting and referral mechanisms, as well as case management protocols) to address VAC and the design of effective social behavior change interventions.
